Training & Guidance

moloNEY & ASSOCIATES Acoustic & Environmental Consultants, have guided many clients through the potential maze of environmental/occupational management and legislative requirements. As well as issuing clearly written assessments and reports we have compiled and presented professional training courses and workshops for industries and state agencies.
Our consultants combine their excellent academic training along with their years of practical ‘real world’ experience to engage with their specialist subjects. In many cases, our consultants have devised training plans in conjunction with our clients and we have also devised bespoke training courses in areas such as:
- Environmental Management Systems.
- Risk management and emergency response.
- Occupational hygiene.
- Chemical risk assessment.
- Environmental awareness.
- Waste management.
- Noise assessment and Hearing conservation.
- Vibration assessment and control.
- Vibration analysis (condition monitoring).
We have also experience of lecturing to undergraduate and post-graduate courses and our consultants act as tutors and examiners for universities and higher education institutions.
MOLONEY & ASSOCIATES Acoustic & Environmental Consultants, have been appointed as an Accredited Centre by the Institute of Acoustics (IOA) and provide IOA approved courses in Workplace Noise and Environmental Noise.
Certificate of Competence in Workplace Noise Risk Assessment (CCWNRA)
The accuracy and reliability of any noise assessment is primarily dependent upon the competence of the assessor. In addition, informed and appropriate advice on noise control should only be taken from competent individuals. In recognition of the need to up-skill and train noise assessors and safety practitioners to a recognized standard, the IOA has developed its certificate of competence course, the forerunner of which has been presented throughout the UK since 1989.
MOLONEY & ASSOCIATES Acoustic & Environmental Consultants, is an Accredited Centre for the IOA Certificate which aims to provide a recognised course of education and training to enable persons to carry out workplace noise assessments in a competent manner.
The course provides participants with up-to-date information and training to meet the demands of all relevant EU and Irish legislation. It is designed to provide a combination of essential acoustic theory along with the necessary `hands on' practical measurement and assessment skills. This is achieved through well-developed, interactive training which includes industrial assessment along with classroom and workshop formats.
The IOA course is suitable for managers, supervisors, engineers, technical/scientific personnel, safety representatives, safety officers and/or consultants who have an interest in or responsibility for managing the risks associated with exposure to noise. In addition, any personnel, whose responsibility may require them to have a working knowledge of noise measurement methodology and an appreciation of noise control techniques and methods will benefit from the course. This IOA approved course provides first class tutoring and training from experts in the field and may allow participants to develop a rapid pathway into a career in acoustics.
The IOA Certificate of Competence in Workplace Noise is run over a one week period and the courses are scheduled to tie in with specified IOA exam dates. The next scheduled Examination Dates are: 5 March 2010 and 5 November 2010. (Click here for further details on this course).
Certificate of Competence in Environmental Noise Measurement (CCENM)
Excessive noise causes widespread problems for many individuals and organizations and noise is recognized as being the cause of increasing numbers of complaints throughout the European Union. Environmental noise has the potential to disturb sleep, significantly impact upon the quality of life and give rise to adverse health effects. For this reason many companies and organizations must develop appropriate assessment, managment and control systems/techniques. In many cases there is a legal imperative to manage environmental noise and a proactive approach to noise management can help to avoid complaints and/or costly litigation.
This IOA Certificate course addresses the legal and practical aspects of dealing with the problems of environmental noise pollution. The course focuses on the measurement, assessment and control of environmental noise.
Aims and Objectives
The aims of the course are to:
- provide candidates with a basic knowledge of the methodology of environmental noise measurement, including, in particular, the use and of sound level meters and analysers.
- provide candidates with an appreciation of the role of measurement data within the framework of standards and legislation for environmental noise.
After successfully completing the course, delegates will be able to:
- make reliable measurements of background noise and noise from a variety of sources, according to the requirements of the relevant International Standard, British Standard or guidance document
- present and interpret measurement data in a form suitable for inclusion in a report
- identify in outline the principle methods of noise control to mitigate the impact of noise on the community
- explain measurement methodology and the data acquired
- appreciate the measurement content of reports and environmental appraisals, and
- critically review reports and comment on proposals for noise impact mitigation.
The course is aimed at:
- Consultants, engineers, technical and scientific staff, and managers in: industry, the construction sector, local authorities, service industries and consultancies
- Individuals whose responsibilities may require them to gain a working knowledge of noise measurement methodology and a basic appreciation of noise control methods
The next scheduled Examination Dates for the Certificate of Competence in Environmental Noise Measurement are: 14 May 2010 and 22 October 2010. (Click here for further details on this course).
Both the Certificate of Competence in Environmental Noise Measurement and the Certificate of Competence in Workplace Noise Risk Assessment closely follow the prescribed IOA syllabus. However, for delegates who may wish to focus on a limited number of topics, bespoke training can be provided or selected elements of the syllabus can be combined with practical survey work at the clients’ facility.
